Want to hear something surprising? Digital transformation initiatives have totally transformed how enterprise IT departments conduct their business and how they’re constructed.

Okay, we understand that this isn’t some big revelation, but the fact of the matter is that – as organizations have become increasingly more digital – CIOs and business leaders have had to adjust accordingly. Their company’s success and the happiness of their employees depends on it.

For example, it’s no longer a best practice to simply respond to support tickets when IT issues pop up. Instead, IT teams are now searching for answers (via technology implementations) to vital questions, such as:

  • What kind of insights do I want and need within my company’s IT ecosystem?
  • How do I ensure the solutions we choose are working out?
  • Are my employees truly benefiting from these technologies?

While these questions may seem overwhelming, the reality is that these are simply a handful of the ones that CIOs must ask when looking to build a successful IT department. Luckily, there are plenty of industry analysts out there who are putting themselves in the shoes of these business leaders and are helping lead the charge by identifying new, emerging market categories that help get IT leaders the answers they’re looking for.

We at Nexthink are excited to highlight that we’ve been deemed member of a new market category in the IT analysis space – dubbed collective intelligence benchmarking (CIB) – according to a Gartner research report titled Hype Cycle for IT Performance Analysis, 2018. The report looks at the different decisions that infrastructure and operations leaders must make to properly observe and analyze IT behaviors across the enterprise – and serves as a guide for selecting the right vendors to fit specific company needs.

While still in its infancy, CIB is quickly emerging as a popular approach for enterprises to easily understand how deployed IT initiatives are being used by employees. Essentially, these type of technologies allow organizations to analyze data from hundreds (or thousands) of end-users to establish a baseline performance level for services and applications. This baseline is critical for IT leaders, as it will help them to see, in real-time, how end-users are interacting with different applications, eventually providing insight into how they’re performing and could potentially improve.

If you use an app – whether desktop or mobile – on a daily basis at your job, I’m willing to bet that there have been times that you were unsure whether it was functioning optimally or if it was simply something wrong with your device’s hardware. Well, CIB vendors are here to take the guesswork out of the equation for you by creating a baseline performance level that seamlessly allows IT automation solutions to identify disruptions by looking for patterns across all endpoints in a company’s IT ecosystem.

By analyzing data from all endpoints, CIB tools can automatically see if the seemingly minor issue your application is having is an isolated incident or indicative of a broader problem that requires a mass resolution. This practice alone instantly allows IT teams to improve the overall performance of their environment.

The end result? Happier, more productive employees that are no longer bogged down by slow, faulty applications because IT can finally see and proactively react to disruptions that may seem minor at first… but could be a bigger deal than you think.
